Wollaton exterior walls

Wollaton rendering area guide | Local records and nearby places

A Wollaton address is a useful starting point, but it is not a statistical boundary or a planning designation. This page brings together the local records used across the site and explains where their coverage starts and ends.

Three named areas, three separate boundaries

Nottingham City Council records Wollaton Village as a conservation area designated in July 1969 and Wollaton Park as a separate designation from December 1976. Sutton Passeys was designated on 18 August 2010. The council describes the latter as a planned 1920s estate on the eastern fringe of Wollaton Park. These references help identify which appraisal to read; they are not a substitute for locating an individual property on the current map.

For a proposed change to an elevation, gather the address, a photograph and a description of the work before approaching the responsible planning authority. Replacing a damaged finish with a closely matched repair is a different proposal from covering exposed brick or changing the external appearance of several walls. State what currently exists and what would change. Keep the authority’s response with the specification rather than relying on an informal assumption based on a neighbouring house.

The lime rendering and wall rendering pages discuss material and junction choices. Neither page determines permission for a particular property. Where a listed building or designated area is involved, the project may need more detailed advice than a standard product recommendation.

What the housing figures actually measure

A separate Wollaton built-up-area accommodation table was not available in the source used for this collection. The chart therefore uses the wider Nottingham built-up area and labels it as context. It does not describe a measured sample of Wollaton houses. The pre-1919 percentage comes from the Nottingham council tax area, which is a different geography again, and uses domestic-property counts rather than Census household counts.

Those distinctions matter when discussing a specific building. An accommodation category does not reveal the wall construction, and a build-period category does not establish that the present render is original. Extensions, alterations and replacement coatings can all differ from the main house. Use the local data to understand the records, then base the specification on the actual walls.

The listed-entry table also covers the wider Nottingham built-up area. It counts unique designations, not the number of houses in Wollaton. A listed entry can include several structures or details, and a map point does not define the full legal extent of a listing. We have kept those limitations beside the figures so they remain visible when the table is read on its own.

Nearby places and preparing a useful project description

For a property near Wollaton, include the full address and postcode with the enquiry. Council boundaries and conservation designations can differ between neighbouring places, so use the authority and mapped designation for that address. Photographs should show the walls involved, their existing finish and the route around the building. Mention shared passages, narrow gates or adjoining structures that could affect access.

Separate the main dwelling, any extension, a detached garage and boundary walls in the brief. They may have different backgrounds, exposure and existing coatings, even at one address. Identify finishes that should remain and mark where the proposed work should stop. A corner, reveal or material junction can provide a clearer boundary than an arbitrary line across the middle of a wall.

For a project covering several walls, the house rendering guide explains how to assemble an elevation schedule. For a smaller defect, begin with the repair guide and record what is visible before deciding on a coating. Named conservation areas around Wollaton

Wollaton Village, Wollaton Park, Sutton Passeys

Three separate designations verified in Nottingham City Council’s register. Their individual boundaries apply; this is not a designation covering the whole neighbourhood.

These records describe the area. A rendering survey still needs to establish the masonry, existing coatings and condition of your own walls. For a listed property or an address in a conservation area, check the proposed work with the responsible planning authority.
